Eyeshadow: gold & orange

Happy holidays everyone! I trust you're all enjoying a break from work/studies/life in general? Sadly, I'm working through the Christmas and New Year's break, but I'm lucky enough to be doing so from home, which is pretty good. As a result, I've been getting up and just slapping on minimal makeup, and often forgetting to take photos at all. Today I succeeded in snapping pictures of my quick, five-minute eye makeup.

Eyeshadow: four old looks

Hi again everyone! Sorry I've been away, but I've been busy... planning my very first (very short) trip to Europe! I'm so excited. I leave at the end of June, so if you guys have suggestions for makeup brands I need to check out, please let me know. I'll be visiting Finland, England, France, Sweden and the Czech Republic. I plan to check out Sephora in France, of course, as well as Boots and things like that. Let me know if there's somewhere I need to visit!

All of these looks are from a few months ago. They were on a media card and I pretty much forget everything that was used. Sorry! At least with this first look I remember I used Aromaleigh Tracy (Fall Tapestry) on the lid.

Shimmery and matte neutrals with a green sheen.

Haul: giveaway prize & swap

I was lucky enough to win Jill's (Just Peachy) blog giveaway a few weeks ago and my goodies recently arrived. I also did a swap with Luna (Sparkling Luna) and those goodies arrived on the same day! So I've got pictures of all the exciting things I'll be trying out over the next few weeks (or longer: check out all the samples Luna sent me). I apologise for the crap photos. I was so excited that I took photos as I opened my packages, which was at night after work, so the lighting is pretty shocking. First up, my prize.

Eyeshadow: golden orange

Today I felt like wearing gold. One of my all-time favourite Aromaleigh eyeshadows is Concrete Jungle, although I only have a teenty little sampleof it. Sparkling Luna is fixing that, though. Yay! I combined this with a darker golden brown and an orange to come up with this look.

Eyeshadow: another Aromaleigh Starry Night look

I haven't given Aromaleigh's Starrt Night collection enough love, so I did a look with a few of the colours I haven't used before. I went all-out and this look was shimmery from the lid all the way to the brow bone.

Left to right: Polaris (shimmery white), Capella (yellow with pink shimmer), Spica (chartreuse), Izar (red-based purple), Bellatrix (dark blue with silver sparkle).

Eyeshadow: Sugarpill Junebug

Merry Christmas everyone!

Oh yeah, more Sugarpill! This look features Junebug, which I got during Sugarpill's recent Pink Weekend sale. I'm a sucker for green and Junebug is just stunning. I also thought it was the perfect choice for Christmas! This look is a bit dark because I was eager to try out some of my new Fyrinnae eyeshadows and most of the colours I got were dark.

Eyeshadow: Aromaleigh Holly-Days look

So I was hoping to have this up yesterday, but the (sort of) in-laws' internet is almost as slow as dialup. Ugh. It's behaving for some reason, so I thought I'd quickly get this up and happening. This look is from a few days ago using my new Aromaleigh Holly-Days collection.

Coming up: lots of new eyeshadows!

This is just a quickie to let you guys know what's in store (hopefully before Christmas). I've got more Aromaleigh and Femme Fatale Cosmetics looks coming up, plus some new goodies! The postman delivered my four new loose eyeshadows from Sugarpill, as well as a substantial order from Fyrinnae. This is definitely going to keep me busy. Plus I'm going to play catchup with some new lip products. So much is coming! Now that I've written it all down, perhaps it's a bit ambitious that I aim for Christmas. Let's just say this is all coming before the end of the year.

Eyeshadow: Aromaleigh Starry Night look

I recently bought sample sets of the Aromaleigh (http://www.aromaleigh.com/) Starry Night and Holly-Days collections. The Starry Night collection is the first one I've tried. I wanted a darker look because I'm going to an Opeth concert tonight, so I thought I'd go for a reddish look.

Eyeshadow: neutral sparkle

This is just a super quick look I did for work. I used the Urban Decay Naked palette (Buck in the crease and Virgin as the brow highlight) and featured Aromaleigh's Neutrino all over the lid on top of Fyrinnae Pixie Epoxy. A little bit of liner and voila! Neutrino is simply stunning in the sun, where you can see all the multicoloured glitter in it.

Neutral but sparkly.

More Aromaleigh looks to come!

Eyeshadow: pink and purple look

This is a look I did using a couple of my new Aromaleigh eyeshadows and my Body Shop shimmer cubes. I wanted it bright and without the black liner I always wear, so I used a purple Make Up For Ever liner.

Pink and lots of purple.

For this I used Aromaleigh Flutterby on the lid and along the inner two thirds of the lower lashine and Aromaleigh Nyx in the crease and along the outer third of the lower lashline. I added some of the mint green from The Body Shop shimmer cubes on the inner corner, as well as some of the dark green into the deep crease and outer lower lashline. I finished it off with a silver Benefit liner on the waterline and Make Up For Ever aqua liner in #8 along the top.

Swatches: small Aromaleigh haul

I recently did an Aromaleigh order (www.aromaleigh.com) when the site was back up and running. Unfortunately, it was before the Fall Tapestry and Starry Night collections were available, so I'm going to have to do another order for those. What a shame! ;)

I was a latecomer to Aromaleigh. The first time I ordered I got almost 50 samples and before I could order full-sized versions of my favourites, they stopped accepting international orders. So what you see here are my first (and definitely not last) full-size Aromaleigh eyeshadows.

Top row: Neutrino, Just-a-Head, Azimuth and Erebos.
Bottom row: Flutterby, Nyx and Athena.

I'll have a couple of looks comping up soon using these lovely new pretties.

Eyeshadow: Halloween fun

So last night was Halloween. We didn't have too many kiddies trick or treating, which is a bit of a shame. I know we don't really get into it here in Australia like they do overseas; however, I noticed that even supermarkets like Coles seemed to be getting into the spirit of the holiday, with costumes, lollies and other bits and pieces for sale in the last month or so.

Anyway, I wanted something fun and bright for Halloween, since I wasn't dressing up or anything and I didn't want to scare any of the neighbourhood children. I combined Aromaleigh's Severina on they eyelid (over Fyrinnae Pixie Epoxy, of course) with Morgana Cryptoria's Warped on the lower lashline. Unfortunately, neither of these colours are available anymore.

Left: indoors with flash. Right: outdoors in natural light.

I like the way this turned out. I bumped into a friend earlier in the day and she loved it so much that she wants me to do it on her one day. Cool! I don't often get to doll up other people, except my sister on special occasions (although since she doesn't like glitter and too much sparkle, it's not as fun). The only problem is that both colours looked brighter an more intense in person.

Haul: Morgana Minerals

I bought a few goodies from Morgana Minerals (www.morganaminerals.com) about a month ago when they were having a sale. I ended up buying a bunch of samples, four full-sized eyeshadows and a lipstick. I'm only going to talk about the eyeshadows here because I want to do a separate review of the lipstick later on. I'd read about Morgana at various blogs and when they announced the sale, I thought I'd give them a go.

First of all, the web site is a bit of a nightmare to navigate. I did my shopping using the painfully long drop-down Categories menu. If I'd just kept returning to the home page, I wouldn't have missed out on the seeing the Shimmer Me Timbers Pirate collection. There were some awesome colours in there. Perhaps next time.

So once I found my way around, I ended up with eye colours from the new Limited Edition and Get Medieval collections, as well as the regular 2009, Christmas and Halloween collections. All of the eyeshadows are available in a number of sizes and configurations. The sample baggies are only US$1 each and then there are different sized sifter jars and refill bags, with the biggest size (a 10g jar with a generous 3-3,5g of product) costing US$8. The four full-size eyeshadows I bought were in the 5g jar and they cost US$5 each. The vegan lipsticks are US$10 each. There are also a few other products for sale on the site, including glitter, foundations and primers.

I haven't had the chance to wear them all yet because I'm still working my way through the ridiculously large amount of Aromaleigh samples I purchased just before the company closed down. I've worn Fortress, LE #7 and North Pole at this stage, and I'm totally in love with all of them. It wasn't until I swatched all my colours today that I realised how amazing some of these colours are. I'm definitely going to have to buy the full-sized versions of some of them!

For each of the following photos, the top image was indoors and the bottom one was taken outside in the sun. All eyeshadows were applied over Urban Decay Primer Potion.

L to R: Fortress, Nightmare, LE #7 and Warped.

L to R: Petroleum Green, Mordred, Shallow Grave, Potion and Goblet.

L to R: North Pole, Ashed Pine, Lady Godiva, Chivalry and Beowulf. The horizontal swipe at the bottom is Glitter Ghoul.

A closeup of Glitter Ghoul. This is the only colour I was disappointed with. It's a matte black with multi-coloured glitter in it, but the glitter mostly just fell off.

L to R: Skeletons in Your Closet, Harken, Twinkling Cherrine, Transylvania Twist and Tinsel Me.

Dumb moment: grabbing the wrong colour

First of all, let me start by saying that this hasn't happened more than a couple of times, so I'm not a complete dumbarse. OK, so what I did was swatch a couple of Red Earth eyeshadows in Priceline the other day and I found one I wanted called Cleopatra (they were 50% off, so they were only $8 each). However, the way the testers were organised was in a staggered formation, with the shrink-wrapped goodies in a single row in the back. Turns out I picked up a brown colour called Havana Nights. If I had even bothered to check the label, I would have realised my mistake, but since it was directly behind the Cleopatra tester, I just grabbed it.

I didn't notice what I'd done until I got it home (still without looking at the label on the bottom), removed the plastic and opened it up. It was only after I swiped my finger across the eyeshadow that I realised it was dark brown and not the dark golden olive/brown that I was expecting. Sigh. So of course I couldn't return it. Luckily for me, it's a really nice brown with flecks of gold glitter in it. It's just that brown isn't a colour I wear a lot of. I ended up going back to Priceline today to get Cleopatra (the last one), which was unfortunately smashed to bits. This wasn't evident from the outside because the plastic was intact. Methinks some twit may have dropped it in the store.

The mess that is Cleopatra.

Anyway, I thought I'd force myself to use my new brown eyeshadow today and I'm actually quite impressed. It blended nicely with the other colours I was wearing (Aromaleigh Phantasm and Viburnum) and darkened the crease and outer corner to create a smoky eye. Smoky eyes are something that I'm not particularly good at, since I'm used to solid blocks of bright colour, but I'm pretty happy with the way this turned out. Who knew brown eyeshadow would be so flattering to brown eyes? I thought it would just be boring.

I'll have to (carfeully) give Cleopatra a go and let you guys know what's it like. In the end, I'm left with two eyeshadows for the price of one, so I guess I can't complain too much!

P.S. I'll try to figure out the white balance on my camera. The indoor photos make me look as though I have corpse flesh! It's a fairly new camera so I still don't know my way around it yet. Next time, guys!

Upcoming reviews

So I have some new goodies to review and thought I'd give you guys a sneak peek at what they are.

I recently bought two new lip glosses: a Sportsgirl-branded pink gloss with purply glitter in it, as well as an opaque wine-coloured gloss from Designer Brands. I'm liking both at the moment and they both offer a different kind of sheen.

The other item I'll be reviewing soon a long-wearing liquid eyeliner from Sephora (you can see it here). The boyfriend got me this when he was in Beijing. I've only worn this twice, so I'll need a few more days before I can really comment on how well it lasts.

Also, I'm not sure how many of you are aware of Aromaleigh Cosmetics (www.aromaleigh.com), but they recently announced the imminent closure of the company and are offering 35% off all orders until then. I got 43 mineral eyeshadow samples (I know, even for me that's a lot), but I figured that I may as well go nuts because once they're gone, they're gone. Anyway, it's going to take me forever to try all the colours, so I may just try to do a swatch post with these.
